I'm now a dad!

As of 18:10 GMT+1 I'm now officially a father My wife had a planned caesarean section for the 30th, but the beginnings of labour started earlier than that and so they did the operation today.

The baby, who we're calling Cyrus Gregory*, weighed 6lb 3oz (2.8Kg), cried a little when he first came out, and again when the removed his warm towels and put him in the scales, but has otherwise been quiet so far.

Mother and baby are both well, and may be out of hospital by the end of Saturday. In the mean time my paternity leave has now started and I'll be visiting for the full period of 10am until 8pm!

* there was debate on the middle name, but we decided he looked more like a Gregory than a Joseph when he was born

He's being good so far - nice and placid and hardly crying. He grimaces sometimes and his bottom lip shakes as if he's about to cry, but on the whole he just seems content to sleep a lot.

Being a dad is amazing. I kept holding the baby today and just sitting there with him (until either him, me, or both of us got to warm) and so my wife said I'm besotted and he's going to be a daddy's boy. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to teach him to type before he's able to write or to get him involved in Warhammer/40K!

Yeah, I think Bap was here while I was at college, and I did a four year Uni course and have graduated for two years now. Definitely a while ago, and some of the earlier forums!

It doesn't matter if this thread was a bit old. In general it's not good to drag up old threads, but new members in a "congrats" thread is perfectly acceptable. Besides, it's only three months old because Cyrus is only 12 weeks old
