Space Hulk

Postby MadMaffMan at 23 Aug 2005, 23:06

Does anyone here remember Space Hulk, cool game it got me involved with GW for the first time. I don't think they make the game any more but it would be great if they updated the rules with all the new Tyranid models that are available now.
Hmm I fancy playin' it now.....i'll have to go up in the loft and dig it out.

Hi SisterHelios
That sounds like something that might be worth looking into, still it wont be the same as clipping together all those cardboard map sections and finding that you've lost one of the main pieces that you need or that the dog is busy chewing one of them up. lol

Well with these rules the Battle field can be as open are as dence as you want,I can imagine the size of the Nid force against a squad of 5 terminators, that scary to just think about with all the rule bending and breaking on the Terminator part lol.

Would be an interesting idea to recreate it with kill teams :) I've never actually played it (not even the computer game version) but it did look like a very good game.

I played Space Crusade a couple of times though :D that was earlier and was a square board with squads of Marines against Chaos Androids, Orks, Gretchin, Chaos Marines and a Dreadnought, but it still had an element of "you're in a ship trying to clear it out with your squad". Like many of the earlier games, it ended up without so much character, though, because they tried to fit so many different races in.

Yeah I've got Space Crusade as well, Space Hulk had many more map tiles so you could make an endless number of maps. They did re-release Space Hulk a few years ago and I thought they were going to revamp it totally....but no it was exactly the same just re-packaged. :-(

I only got to play the PS-1 Space Hulk game, that was hard enough to do,so I can imagine table top being just as bad since its more luck with the dice then luck with eye hand coordination.

They even released rules to play Space Hulk solo, you had to follow a strict set of options but it was still fun to play as you could practice your game play for when you would next play your mates.

OMG.......

I've just played the new Dow Space Hulk mod 0.7. Its fantastic stuff, brings back all the good ol' days spent playing the game.
The maps that i've seen so far look just like i remember them so all my old tricks seem to work.
If you haven't tried the mod download it now, i promise you wont regret it.

Did they manage to get Line of Sight and not shooting through walls working with 1.3 in the end? because I know they had a few problems with that when it first came out.

Also, what tactics? :)

It seems to be a lot better than standard Dow when it comes to shooting through walls, and line-of-sight seems to depend on which way your marine is looking. Which, if you think about it is much more realistic.

Space Hulk has lots of tactics.......should i go down this corridor or should i go down that corridor. :)
