RE: Dawn Of War

I could just keep posting in the old topic, but I feel like making a new topic!

Just got part way through the tutorial before Gordon finished making dinner and wow what a game *drools - we need an emoticon :D*

You don't need any tools to mod your Space Marines colour scheme (granted it doesn't seem to work on the demo in tutorial mode, but that could always have been me missing buttons!). You have:

  • Preset chapter colour schemes for:
    • Blood Angels
    • Blood Ravens (darker, more crimson, but pressumedly a sucessor chapter)
    • Imperial Fists
    • Dark Angels
    • Raven Guard (lesser known, but all black)
    • Space Wolf (no totems or anything, just colours)
    • Ultramarines
    • White Scars
  • DIY Colur schemes using
    • 28 preset GW paint colours (they have a fixed pallete with the paint names!)
    • Full colour wheel/selector thing (with saturation/lightness and the lot that you need!)
    that are applied to the Marine as Primary (amour) Secondary (inner shoulder pad), Trim (and belt and chest eagle), weapon and eyes
  • 37 Should badges (including Chaos, Eldar and Orks)
  • 34 Banners (including Chaos, Eldar and Orks, plus one that looks like Inquisition)

There may be more than that, you can probably colour your Chaos, Eldar and Orks too (there was a race drop down list, but it only had marines)

The video at the start was amazing too. Little blocky and jerky in parts, but that may just have been my computer. Its great to see a Dreadnaught moving!

Now all I need is a mouse with a scroll wheel so that I can zoom in and out! :D

This has to be one of the few games from the past few years that I've thought is worth buying!

Sounds pretty cool, I'm gonna have to get some more memory for my laptop cos I'll need it for this or THUG2 if I get it.

Is there any way of creating/editing chapter colours without the game cos I dont think I can run it

Kinda. There is, but you can't view the output.
The format for a file is:

LocalInfo =
{
badge_name = "space_marine_race/CHAPTERNAME",
associated_race = "space_marine_race",
banner_name = "space_marine_race/CHAPTERNAME",
}
UnitCustomization =
{
pattern_name = "default",
force_name = "CHAPTERNAME",
Eyes =
{
 b = 0,
 g = 20,
 r = 230,
},
Weapons =
{
 b = 62,
 g = 62,
 r = 62,
},
Primary =
{
 b = 30,
 g = 55,
 r = 3,
},
Trim =
{
 b = 53,
 g = 65,
 r = 42,
},
Secondary =
{
 b = 40,
 g = 46,
 r = 14,
},
}

And you can add your own badges and banners as uncompressed TGA files (I'll find the details somewhere later).
But basically its Hex colouring for the following:

Primary - main armour colour
Secondary - inner shoulder pad
Trim - shoulder pad trim, belt, breast eagle and right knee pad
Weapon - bolter casing and squad marking
Eyes - well duh!

Not sure what the Pattern Name does, might have to look into that!

I might have to see if I can whip together a little app using overlays and things :) although that'll probably be a way away :\
