GW bringing back Dark Future novels?

Postby IBBoard at 16 Nov 2005, 21:17

I've just checked up on one of the searches that someone did when they hit the site (Genevieve Diodoune) and found Kim Newman's "Jack Yeovil" page ranked just below me :)

Anyway, since the Genevieve novels are my favourite Warhammer novels, I checked out the page and it turns out that Black Flame (which links to Black Library) has re-released the Demon Download book from the Dark Future series. I wonder if this means that GW will be re-releasing more of them? Not that it matters much, I've got the originals of Demon Download, Krokodil Tears and Comeback Tour (Elvis as an Enforcer :D), although I don't have either Route 666 (the novel or the collection of short stories)

LOL, it'd be interesting if they did, but I think they've probably got enough "Specialist Games" and don't feel like bringing it back as well. Come on, they dropped Warhammer Quest completely!

As for the novels, they've got a special "Black Flame" website which is doing several other non-GW novels (Judge Dredd and something about zombies are amongst the title I think I saw). They're going for the cult-ish novels and the sci-fi stuff that is gritty and for adults :)

They are doing Judge Dredd novels again......cool. Are they going to be new stories i wonder or just re-prints of the old ones.

The best JD graphic novel has to be The Apocalypse War and the best artist Carlos Ezquerra, that reminds me that i ordered a Strontium Dogs GN from Amazon......wonder where that is.

You can check it out yourself - they've only got a few stories republished so far, but they're on the Black Flame website :)

Hoepfully, they will re-publish United States Cavalry by Jack Yeovil, thus allowing those of us who already have the earlier Demon Download books to finally find out what happens at the end...

US Cavalry? Never seen that title. Obviously he wrote that one after whichever reprints my Demon Download etc are. Would be interesting to read some more of those Dark Future novels again :)

Oh yes, I recently picked up DD, KT and Route 666 from Amazon for like a fiver total (in pretty good nick too.) Might wait until they re-print Kid Zero, though.

US Cavalry was supposed to be the final instalment in the DD cycle, concluding the story, and presumably seeing the end of either the world or Nguyen Seth (possibly both). It gets a mention in the afterword of Comeback Tour, and I would swear blind I saw it published, before GW yanked Flame and DF. Of course, Kim Newman's site makes no mention of it, and it's posible I may have confused it with the novel length Route 666, but I'm pretty sure the book I picked in Waterstones back in 97 was called US Cavalry, not Route 666. :?

Odd, I'd have thought Kim Newman's site would have mentioned it. Maybe it wasn't a Jack Yeovil one? I'm fairly sure they had a couple more authors - maybe you're just mis-remembering.

I may have to keep an eye out for the re-release of some of the other books. I wonder whether they'll be generally available in stores, or whether Black Flame is a specialist publisher who only sell through GW.

The Demon Download Cycle was exclusively Kim Newman's work. And it seems likely I'm mis-remembering the release of 'USC'.

As to Black Flame, I've seen some of their JD stuff in Waterstones and Ottakars, along with some GW stuff, so I guess they'll by readily available. It'd be odd for GW to carry novelisations of a game they discontinued so many years ago...it might confuse the *ahem* 'younger players'

Yeah, guess so - much like WHFRP is back in publication, but not well publicised in GW stores. Ahhh, Ottakers - not been in one of those since I was down in dreadful Bracknell! Manchester has a huge Waterstones - I may have to go and browse at some point, although maybe I've got enough books to read already!

Despite being published by BL. Which is weird.
Enough books? rubbish! you can never have enough books...speaks the man who has five floor-to-ceiling bookcases and still has GW army books, random novels and other stuff piling up on the floor.... :?

Sounds like my kind of book case :D I've got quite a few of the old boxed sets too - not Dark Future, but there is some early road-wars type boardgame in there with lots of little counters.

Yeah, I tihnk it was done by Ian Livingstone, and was the pre-cursor to DF. In fact, I strongly suspect it may have been called Road Wars, or soemthing similar...

Road Wars sounds right, and it probably was one of the old Ian Livingstone ones. GW probably deny all existance of anything from that era now :D I know they never used to like old GW and MB Games models (again, can't remember the name but it had plastic models that slotted into trays and you had a big plastic hex-sheet to play it on - Empire Vs Orcs IIRC), although that was over five years ago now and they have relaxed their in-store 'no unpainted models' policy.
