What's your favourite GW novel, background/artwork book?

Postby MadMaffMan at 30 Aug 2005, 18:50

I spend nearly as much time reading GW books as I do playing DOW lately. I was just wondering if you guys where the same.

At the mo i'm reading the Warrior Brood novel by C.S.Goto, the third Horus Heresy book Visions Of Treachery and the new Tyranid Codex.

I think my fav novel has to be Space Marine by Ian Watson, which someone told me GW has been pulled from sale as it's no longer fluff friendly.

Is this true because it's a shame new readers wont be able to read a fine story.

And my fav artbook has to be The Gothic And The Eldritch the collected works of Jes Goodwyn, there's so much detail in his drawings that it doesn't matter how many times you look at them you always see new things.

Enough natter for now, time to start playin'........

Happy reading.

I've already got an "Best Authors" thread in the GW section :)

Background book? Dunno, don't read them - too expensive to buy on a student budget! I did like some of the special edition Warhammer books though (Skaven with rat skin and a rat tail bookmark :D)
Oh, I do have the Inquies Exterminatus (I think) art book, which is very impressive :)

Time to move to GW :)

Its ok, we can have this as a books thread and my one as an Authors thread :)

Specific book wise, I like Inquisitor (the first of the Inquisitor War series, which I only just realised :( now the rest are going to be a pain to find) and any of the Genevieve books :)

The Inquisition War books are very good indeed, my copies are so old the first book was printed in 1990. :o

My other favs have to be the Konrad series and the Slayer novels, is it just me or are the Gaunts Ghosts novels becomming very repetitious. I bet he can write them in his sleep now.

Hooray for Storm Of Iron, i love it when the bad guys win. Makes a lovely change to the good guys winning at the end by the skin of their teeth......again.

You may be able to pick those books up on ebay if the Black Library doesn't have them in stock anymore.

I'll have to check Black Library, but I doubt they stock them - I've not seen them on the shelves in GW and I think they've only just recently re-released the Orfeo trillogy. eBay is a good place, though :) I've picked up a few Fighting Fantasy books and quite a few White Dwarf mags from there. My copy of "Inquisitor" (the first book) is probably almost as old! Definately the old style cover.

The Gotrek novels are very good as well, William King is a very good author.

There are some very good second hand book shops around here.

What are the books your looking for? I can keep an eye out for you incase they ever get some. Which has happened 'cause thats where i got my Konrad books from. :)

I'm looking for any GW books if they're cheap :D My ideal situation would be to have lots of money and a place that sold all of the GW games/books/suplements cheap or good quality second hand :) Unfortunately I have to rely on being very lucky and finding them in charity shops (or, more often, my Grandma finding them in charity shops :) )

I might have to list all of the novels I've got later :)

I'm not sure that i'd want to list all the GW novels/background/rules books that i have.......its lots. A whole room full in fact.
If i did list them i'd have to work out how much i've spent over the years and doing that would probably make me faint with shock.

Yeah, thats the one downside with listing everything you've got - it ends up looking expensive! I've got just about all of the Fighting Fantasy novels, but my Grandma regularly goes round charity shops and got most of them for between 20p and £2 :) around 200 of the last 300+ White Dwarf mags is a little excessive too :D although they're still at my family's home, no space in my flat!

Don't mention White Dwarf mags....i think my floor boards are going to give out under all their weight.
I could find my bedroom in the living room downstairs if i'm not careful. :)

I think I'm going to have to add Ravenor into my list of favourite books. The story was interesting and I liked the style (the psy bits and the sections from Ravenor's PoV were different and well done). I think the Genevieve books are probably still my preference though, and still Inquis Exterminatus for background/pictures.
