Vassal Module: W40k live per Internet (Warning: large image)

Postby Dark Scipio at 18 Mar 2008, 11:29

I wonder if anybody here already uses the 40k Module for Vassal to play 40k games through the Internet?

All you need is the Vassal engine (a Java engine) wich you can dowload for free:
http://www.vassalengine.org/community/index.php

And the you just have to start the Warhammer 40k Module, you can download the newest version (3.5.5) there:

Firstly, I've removed the banner for the Vassal Module. It was huge and didn't add anything to the thread. Similarly I've made the Dark Angels army a link as it was too big to show to everyone without warning.

I've seen pixel drawn armies for W40K before, but I don't think I've seen this one before. It's an interesting idea and similar to something I thought of about five years ago (although that was more to do with having a collection of images to use in Photoshop for creating the maps manually with the possibility of some web-based system for making battle reports on the site)

The images do help with the battle report, and I'm sure it must be easier than doing it yourself. Having had experience of the GW Legal team then I'm surprised they don't have a huge problem with it, though.

I would be glad to see you try it out. :)

The thing is GW cant do anything about it because, none of their rights are touched, its all our own work.

I don't play enough to use it personally. I still enjoy the background, but it has been at least 18 months since I played a game.

As for the legal issue, that depends. In certain situations then GW can quite validly object to your use of their (registered?) trademarked game names in relation to a non-licensed product. Also, while the pixel images are your work, they're based on GWs figures and imagery and I'm not entirely sure where the balance falls on that issue.
