What army to collect next?

this forums got me started painting my space marines again, i think i might start on another army after i've finished em, any suggestions?

It depends what you want, how you like to paint and how you like to play. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, especially when it comes to writing software (I don't like to give up on a bug even if I'm going to come back to it later), but I like the Orks because it gives a fun game where it doesn't matter whether you win or lose because da boyz can't hit a barn door anyway!

I'll break this out to its own thread, since it is a question rather than an army you'd like.

So good guys and protecting the Imperium or heavy armour elite troops?

Also, what chapter do you have? Some of them play slightly differently to normal so it might make a difference.

blood angels, and both of those things are ok really...

Sisters of Battle/Witch Hunters would give you a reasonable amount of power armour with the "for the Imperium" slant, although I'm not sure how expensive they are as I don't remember SoB plastics.

Chaos would keep the power armour and the close combat that normally goes with Blood Angels and could be tailored to the different legions.

The other main option would be Necrons, as they're also hard as nails (and keep coming back) but it depends how robotic and soulless you want to get.

are dark eldar much good?

I think they're a bit like in Soulstorm - rather fragile but very powerful if used right. The whole background is pirate raiders, so you've got to be able to handle a hit-and-run army that can't take much direct punishment.

If you play blood angels heres an idea. Try making a guard regiment in blood angels colors. Call it something like the Blood Guard of Baal (sp). Just thought i'd throw that out there. I was originally going to go blood angels with my space marines but i chose Dark angels instead. I have a tendancy twords shooting stuff. But a guard army would be a really different style of play. ranged combat meatshields. on second thought. hmm. maybe SoB or Grey nights would be a good choice. SoB aren't that expensive anymore. for close combat and good protection? um 'nid Godzilla Army? its gonna be a little on the expensive side though.

Good: fun, variety, yelling "waaggghhh" before you charge, huge amounts of troops so you feel safe.
Bad: Can't shoot for peanuts, don't have much armour, can struggle with tanks unless you take tankbustas (which are overkill when there aren't tanks)

About as expensive as normal. I'd recommend the GW store as a good example

You're probably better buying online, though, as some places can give you up to a 20% discount on GW products, which is the best idea unless you want a specific model/weapon combo in a blister pack.

Having looked at the prices I thought GW had done something strange and reduced their prices on regiment boxes, as I remembered them being at £16 or £18. It turns out they have, but you now also only get 10 orks in a box instead of 16. Based on the picture then they do give you heavy weapons and plastic nobs now, but I'd say you now need five boxes for two good sized units instead of just three and you end up with more special spare bits.

yeah, their pricing is horrible on that stuff, i've been looking at shopping online for them, its waaaaaay cheaper
