Chapter Two
The Jungle
Rybok kept his gaze straight towards the trees, and watched as they themselves looked alive, from the glaring eyes of the Orks.
Then the sound of stubber fire echoed from out of the trees, Rybok watched a spray of stubber shells fly from the jungle, and into the first of the Deathwatch marines.
Two of the armoured warriors fell backwards from the impact.
He dropped to one knee taking a careful aim with his combi. Behind crouched Lorte Librarian of the Flesh Tearer's. Lorte held out his psychic staff with both hands pointing it towards the surrounding jungle.
Wait until they emerge.” Rybok bellowed.
It wasn't long before the screaming of Ork’s bellowing the word “Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh” Seconds before two dozen emerged from the trees and straight into the first line of Deathwatch marines. At this point the Orks were wielding their crud axes and blades.
Dyson was the first to engage the green skins using both his bionic arms he grabbed the first by the head and crushed its skull until nothing more than slush remained, before he moved onto the next.
After that the echo of chainswords revved up above the noise of the wind and screaming war cries of the Ork’s.
Lorte rose to full height swirling his staff above his head. Rybok blocked his charge with his arm.
"why.” Lorte questioned.
"your too eager Brother. Have patience.”
Lorte ignored him and began to spin his staff like a propeller and leapt high in the air.
Once back on the ground with both feet a dash of red lightening flew from the staff and into the first Ork that dared to emerge from the Jungle.
The Deathwatch all watched the Ork combust into a mass of blood and green skin.
Though Rybok was annoyed at Lorte he couldn't help the smile that graced his face.
"slaughter these Green skins as they emerge" He then bellowed.
The first line of Deathwatch marines charged into the berserk Ork’s chainswords clashed against the Crude weapons of the Ork’s.
Though the Deathwatch soon overcame the might of the brutish warriors, Rybok couldn't help but notice something different about these warriors.
"fall Back.” He finally bellowed.
After he noticed the first wave of attacking Ork’s weren't attack but trying to flee, a sight he'd never seen from these brutish creatures
Sergeant Dyson turned for a moment to witness an over sized Ork charge at him.
The Ork held out it's over muscled arms and took a firm hold around the cyborgs neck. Dyson flapped his bionic arms taking a firm grip and trying hard to pierce the Brutes skin.
The Ork just ignored his futile attempts.
Rybok looked in horror as the Ork ripped Dysons head from its shoulders like putty in its hands. Then threw the floppy carcase to the grassy yet blood stained ground.
Lorte charged towards the Ork but tripped from the impact of a rock slamming into his helm.
“Demacluse fire a rocket into that beast, for Emperors sake.”
Demacluse turned back to face the Ork and fired a single rocket aimed straight for its barley clothed stomach.
The Rocket punched through the Ork blowing it apart in a shower of blood and guts raining back into the Jungle were it had come from.
More crazed Ork’s emerged from the trees to attack the Deathwatch marines. Demacluse fired another rocket and a third into the attacking Orks. Yet they still charged none showing the sign of retreat.
It was at that point Rybok noticed roots emerge from the ground then wrapped their vines around the fallen marines and Ork’s dragging them back to the ground.
“Fall back this place is cursed.” Rybok bellowed while he stepped backwards and back onto the Thunderhawk ramp, closely followed by Brother Stern of the Silver Skulls. Both men watched in horror as the jungle came alive and quickly spread roots around the still smouldering compound they'd arrived at. Rybok fired his flamer into the roots that swiftly approached the Thunderhawk. The flames seemed to force the roots and vastly growing vines back.
Lorte watched Dyson emerge from the earth that had consumed his body. Though the It was clear to see it was indeed Dysons cybernetic body it certainly wasn't Dyson anymore. Lorte then watched another three downed Deathwatch Brothers emerge all were covered over by the dirt that had consumed them and deformities were beginning to show in the bare flesh were their armour had been removed.
Though Lorte was rash and quick to jump into battle even he thought better of his own instincts, and thus turned back to Captain Rybok and Brother Stern, and made his way leaping over vines and plant roots back to the Thunderhawk.
The three watched as the Jungle consumed the compound and Brother Demacluse.
Rybok turned back and walked inside the Darkness of the Thunderhawk troop compartment.
He hit the vox unit by the hatch. “Return us to Orbit, and get me a channel to the Legacy.” Both Stern and Lorte followed him back into the Thunderhawk feeling the vibrations of the vessel lifting from the ground. The Hatch finally closed and with a slight tug, forcing the three to wrench forwards from a vine that had hooked around one of the landing legs they were free and airborne once again.
Rybok entered the cockpit to greet Brother Deacon of the Raven Guard.
“I have a channel opened for you captain.” He said.
Rybok to the comm. inquisitor we are returning to dock. I have lost my team.”
what happened Captain Rybok.” Came the static reply of Inquisitor McGregor.
“I unsure.”
"you must have an Incline.”
“It was as though the Planet was alive itself.” Finished Rybok.
***
The room in which the Inquisitor sat in his seat was shrouded under a blanket of Darkness letting only the slight yellow glow from the door left a jar to gleam across the floor lighting up half of the features of another tall armoured Marine.
The Marines helm was shaped like a skull with red glowing eyes staring through the gigantic window that over looked the planet below.
The Marines Chapter symbol on his left shoulder was lit up by the low yellow glow from the door way of the have open door.
The symbol was a red fist over a dark blue background.
Inquisitor McGregor rose up to his full height from his cushioned black and golden chair. His long black leather coat drooped down to his feet.
He slowly walked over to the Deathwatch Marine from the Crimson Fists chapter.
McGregor let his long hair droop down past his shoulders as the shadows hid his face, yet the light uncovered the scare across the left side of his cheek.
"SO tell me Chaplain Quornas what are your thoughts on this sudden event.”
