Mighty Empires returns!

Postby IBBoard at 08 May 2007, 12:16

I don't know how many people will remember it, but Mighty Empires is making a come-back!

It won't be a game in its own right this time, but GW are still titling it as "Mighty Empires".Away go the hexagonal card tiles and in come interlocking plastic hexagons with relief detail (picture to follow!)

It looks great, is available in July, and seems much more durable and sensible than the old Mighty Empires (because even in Warhammer Quest the board sections used to get nudged apart). I dread to think how much GW are going to charge for it!

What happened to the more recent tiny weeny battle system? Can't remember what it was called

EDIT: Also, the old model quality: Eugh.

EDIT2: I'm going to use this post to say: My review for Oz is up. Two days after it showed. *shakes fist* I had to harass them three times before this got put up, despite them having it before the term even started.

Warmaster? It's still going under the "Specialist Games" section. Warmaster was always more "Warhammer on a larger scale" though, where as Mighty Empires is "Campaigns at a city level that can then have battles fought out in Warhammer/Warmaster"

Don't forget that the old models are from the early 90s or before, though ;)

I think Warmaster is pretty cool, it may be tiny but it gives you the chance to have like, a legion of warriors instead of an army. Bring on the two thousand strong orc army!

Okay, in case people still haven't seen images, here are some scans from White Dwarf (used as examples with no challenge to copyright intended):

Compared to the card hex tiles it's certainly an improvement. I especially like the level of detail with little farmsteads and villages and things, plus larger fortresses/castles that are more exaggerated in their height.

The fact that they're unpainted and you can make your own style - desert, tundra, forrest/Empire, Chaos Wastes, etc - is also great.
